Schott's Lake Concept Plan

Schott’s Lake Resort Expansion

Schott’s Lake Today.

Schott’s Lake has built its legacy upon facilitating lasting family memories and traditions in the great Canadian wilderness, providing farm to-table restaurant offerings, and hosting family-oriented events like weddings and family reunions in its existing conference space. The resort also prides itself on its environmental stewardship and continued contributions to the Mountain View County community.

Schott’s Lake currently offers a number of accommodations for campers and guests, including 50 serviced and unserviced RV campsites, 4 tent sites, a 10-room motel, and two (2) cabins. There is also a lodge-style building that hosts a casual fine-dining restaurant open to the public and to people not currently staying at Schott’s Lake. The lodge also has a conference centre which is typically used to host weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, and similar activities.

Schott’s Lake Proposed Expansion Concept Plan

Future Concept + Vision.

The vision for the future of Schott’s Lake addresses the following goals:

  1. to increase the year-round opportunities available at the resort,

  2. to expand & improve the resort’s overall amenity offerings,

  3. to drive economic growth in Mountain View County, and

  4. to continue building upon Schott’s Lake’s existing legacy.

The Concept Plan to the right illustrates the high-level vision for Schott’s Lake and outlines the conceptual and approximate locations for each new amenity.

This vision features a number of new family-oriented experiences, including nature focused programming and education for children (“Kids’ Zone”) and an event facility with supporting accommodations to increase year-round usability of the resort. This expansion will provide new amenities for Mountain View County residents and visitors alike while capitalizing on the increasing demand for event and conference venues in the area, as well as creating a number of new jobs and driving economic growth in the County.

The expanded amenities will also enable Schott’s Lake to increase its presence and contributions as a member of the local community. Environmental stewardship will remain a top priority for Schott’s Lake. Future development of the resort will respect the natural environment and strive to limit the potential impact the development will have on the land as well as neighbouring lands in line with the results & recommendations of the completed Technical Studies.

Proposed Land Use District.

We are seeking a Direct Control (DC) district for the entire property of Schott’s Lake to allow for the proposed event centre and hotel to exist alongside complementary activities typical of the standard Parks and Recreation and Comprehensive Parks and Recreation districts.

Proposed Regulatory Maximums.

With this proposed Direct Control district, we have the opportunity to propose maximum capacities for certain new amenities in our application. These capacities were also used in our technical studies to determine feasibility and sustainability of the proposed expansion. We are proposing the following maximum capacities:

  • 103 total RV sites (serviced and un-serviced)

  • 15 Cabins

  • Hotel (80 rooms)

  • Event Centre (250 person capacity)
